Who We Are
Jana Wachsler, Psy.D.
Jana Wachsler, Psy.D. has over 25 years of experience working with adolescents, adults and families. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Binghamton University before attending Nova Southeastern University in South Florida. While at NSU, Dr. Jana (as she is known to her patients) earned a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling before completing her Doctorate of Clinical Psychology. After leaving South Florida, Dr. Jana moved to the Chicago area and spent twelve months on Clinical Internship at the North Chicago VAMC, working with veterans and their families. Originally from Potsdam, NY, Dr. Jana found that she missed New York State, and moved her family to Rochester to complete a post-doctoral fellowship in adolescent and family therapy at the University of Rochester. Dr. Jana spent two years at KidsPeace in Romulus before transitioning into private practice at the Boike Building. After 21 years at Boike, Dr. Jana decided to open her own practice, inviting Shannon Poole to join her in this endeavor.
For the past two decades, Dr. Jana has worked with adolescents, adults, and families ages 12 and above. Her specialties include anxiety, depression, LGTBQ+ issues (including work with transgender adolescents and young adults), family therapy, parent-child conflicts, adolescent issues, nutrition and weight loss counseling, smoking cessation, PTSD, and more.
Dr. Jana approaches therapy with a warm but casual approach, using humor and banter to encourage her patients to be open and comfortable.
